Mary Renda Wins John Hope Franklin Award

This month, Mary Renda, associate professor of American Studies and History, was awarded the John Hope Franklin Award for Taking Haiti: Military Occupation and the Culture of U.S. Imperialism, 1915–1940 (2001). This is the second major award for Professor Renda's book. The John Hope Franklin Award is the most prestigious prize given by the American Studies Association and takes into consideration books published in a wide variety of Americanist fields. Professor Renda traveled to Houston to receive the prize at the ASA's annual conference.
