The major in Studio Art requires a minimum of 40 credits. The requirements include:
- A prerequisite gateway course: Art 120 (Drawing I)
- At least six courses taken at the 200-level
- Three courses at the 300-level. At least one semester of Art 390 (Advanced Studio
Art) is required,
as is Art 399 (Senior Studio). The three courses at the 300-level required
for this major must be taken in
Studio Art; courses at the 300-level in Art History cannot
be used to fulfill this requirement.
- At least 8 credits in Art History (including 100-level Art History)
Students receiving a score of 4 or 5 in the Studio Art Advanced Placement examination will receive 4
academic credits in studio art. However, this advanced placement credit does not fulfill any course
requirements for the major or minor.
The minor in Studio Art requires a minimum of 24 credits. The requirements include:
- A prerequisite gateway cours: Art 120 (Drawing I)
- Three level-I courses (200, 226, 236, 246 or 256)
- One level-II course (220, 237, 247, 257, 280 or 295)
- One semester of Art 390 (Advanced Studio Art)
For students with well-defined, art-related interests not offered in the program (architecture, photography,
design, for example), it is possible to construct a special major in consultation with the studio faculty.
