COURSE TITLE Biology 321; Host-Pathogen Interactions
PROFESSOR(S) Sharon Stranford, stranford@mtholyoke.edu
LECTURE One 2hr Session (2 Credit Course)
COURSE DESCRIPTION and GOALS
How does our immune system fight off viral infections and what specific mechanisms have viruses evolved to avoid this immune response? This 2 credit, speaking-intensive seminar course will address issues related to important host-virus interactions. We will read and discuss the primary literature related to antiviral immune responses, from both the host’s as well as the pathogen’s perspective. Each class period will be dedicated to a different topic within this area and presented by one of the course participants in rotation.
