Background on the Computer Science Department's network
The old computer science department network ran on a Windows 2000 server
offering 30 GB of storage and a Red Hat Enterprise 3 server offering 74
GB of storage space. Some of the network hamstrings were: Multiple
accounts across multiple domains, research accounts, and lacking storage
or archival means, limited support mechanisms, lacking centralization
and authority.
The upgraded and current network configuration offers single sign-on
cross realm authentication, unified shares of 550 GB with 3-5 GB storage
space per user, archival ability, and active monitoring systems.
New servers added this year: Windows Enterprise server, Red Hat
Enterprise server Authentication server, LDAP server and complete
backend for Library, FTP/Download server, an Assignment server for
students to submit assignments online and Multiple Web servers.
There is a vast amount of network architecture information which will be
published by April 15th - at which point the fully deployed network
will be online - please check back on this page for the updated links to
the old network architecture and the new network architecture.
