Many students find the dean’s office when faced with a problem, but the office can be a resource even before that point. I encourage students to drop by for small questions or just a brief chat. Sometimes the most mundane conversations are what lead to brilliant revelations, in one’s work or life. I certainly believe in this need for conversation in my own work with literature; in my role as academic dean, I continue to find my discussions with students interesting and rewarding, which is why I love the job.
