First Year Curriculum Guide

CURRENTLY BEING UPDATED

To the Class of 2012:

We look forward to welcoming you to the Mount Holyoke College community. As dean of first-year studies, I take particular interest in the intellectual and personal growth of first-year students. I hope you will keep me in mind as an ongoing resource. You are about to embark on a journey that will introduce you to new ideas about yourself and the world around you. I am especially pleased to offer you guidance as you begin.

Please read this guide using the links on the left in the order in which they are listed.  The purpose of this guide is to advise you on course selection. It offers critical information about planning your program.  We direct your attention in particular to first-year seminars and to the other courses recommended to first-year students by departments and programs.  Review the checklist to be sure you have completed all necessary forms, assessments, and exams.

Have fun selecting courses now, but keep in mind that your preliminary registration in June or November functions as a working draft and does not constitute your final registration. You will have the opportunity to change these choices after you have met with your faculty advisor. For information on Orientation, Residential Life, registration, and other aspects of Mount Holyoke, visit the New Students Web site.

As you consider the exciting opportunities Mount Holyoke has to offer, keep in mind that the college requirements are a means for exploring the curriculum. Be sure to choose courses that inspire and challenge you. This is your education; make sure it engages your interests and passions.
