Environmental Studies (ENVST)

Selecting Initial Courses
Students interested in environmental issues should register for ENVST 100, Introduction to Environmental Studies, during their first year.  This course is a prerequisite for both the major and the minor in Environmental Studies and provides a broad overview of the field.  It also gives students a good sense of how to continue their studies in the environmental field.

In addition, a 100-level lab science course is required for 200-level lab courses in Environmental Studies (ENVST 200, Environmental Science; BIOL 223, Ecology; and GEOL 203, Surface Processes).  Environmental Studies major requirements also include a statistics course.  STAT 140, Introduction to the Ideas and Application of Statistics; STAT 240, Elementary Data Analysis and Experimental Design; or ECON 220, Introduction to Econometrics is recommended.

First year students may consider enrolling in:

 ENVST-100s Introduction to Environmental Studies

 CHEM-101f General Chemistry I
 GEOG 105f  World Regional Geography
 GEOG-106f  The Physical Environment
