European Studies (EURST)

European thought and culture inform much of the liberal arts curriculum. The European studies major offers students the opportunity to develop a critical, focused understanding of European topics through interdisciplinary study. The major, which is particularly useful for students wishing to integrate work in the arts (literature, art, music, theatre) with studies in history and the social sciences, requires competence in and encourages mastery of at least one European language. Students could start with any introductory course that deals with European topics. Such courses are offered in many departments and programs, such as Classics and Italian, English, French, History, German Studies, Philosophy, Russian and Eurasian Studies, and Spanish.
