French (FREN)
The French department curriculum develops skills in the language and provides a broad and varied acquaintance with French and Francophone cultures and literatures. All courses are conducted in French (except 220). In language courses, students work with native French and Francophone assistants in small supplementary conversation groups. The Foreign Language Resource Center is available for computer-assisted programs, Web applications, and video lessons.
Please note that students contemplating study abroad in a French-speaking country must take a 4-credit French course at Mount Holyoke their first semester. See the French department Web site for more information.
If you have never studied French, you may register for French 101. This applies to fall entrants only, since French 102, taught in the spring, is a continuation of French 101 and may not be taken seperately.
