Marie Faye Sarr, French Teaching Assistant
I come from Senegal, a French-speaking country
in West Africa. It is warm in my country and people are
very kind. You cannot talk about Senegal without hearing
about it's legendary "Teranga", which means
love, hospitality, warmheartedness, sociability, and especially
very good food.
I studied English at Cheikh Anta Diop University
of Dakar where I earned my masters degree after earning
my bachelors degree in English and African literature
and civilization. I love to read. It is my favorite passtime
- after the beach. I like Toni Morrison, John Steinbeck,
Jamaica Kincaid, Charles Dickens, James Joyce, Buchi Emecheta,
Wole Soyinka, and Chinua Achebe, to name a few.
I have always enjoyed the English language,
and it is a great opportunity for me to be in the United
States, especially to be here at Mount Holyoke. Because
I have not traveled a lot, I really enjoy the cultural
diversity here. I have met people from many cultures and
countries and feel as though I have traveled around the
world.
