French Placement

This page is only for students who are taking their first French course at MHC.

Students entering Mount Holyoke in the fall should take the placement test and complete the questionnaire before June 15. Those entering in the spring should do so by November 1.

If you have previously studied French, even for a short time, PLEASE:

1) Complete a PLACEMENT test
(use the link below right), being sure to write down your score, which is required to 2) Fill out the Language Proficiency QUESTIONNAIRE below.

This information is needed to ensure placement in a French course that is the most appropriate level for you.
If you have * never * studied French before, you do not have to take a placement test or complete a questionnaire. You may register for French 101.

NOTE: If you are planning to spend your junior year in France or in any Francophone country, you must elect a four-credit French course each semester of your first and second years at Mount Holyoke.
