The Gender Studies Major
Students who major in gender studies begin by taking introductory courses on women and gender, feminist theory, methods and practices, and global power relations. They then develop concentrations in areas of particular interest. By second semester of her junior year, a student should submit to her advisor a statement identifying the central question or questions that will define her focus within the major.
The major requires a minimum of 40 credits, which may be taken at Mount Holyoke and at the other Five Colleges. All majors undertake a field-study project in the junior or senior year and a 2-credit senior capstone course connecting scholarship and social action.
