Geography Major

Description:

The geography major is intended to provide students with an understanding of the world around them. Central to the discipline is the study of interactions of humans and environmental systems. Specific topics emphasized in the curriculum include the physical environment, political geography, socioeconomic development, and techniques in geographic data analysis (computer mapping, satellite image analysis, and geographic information systems).

The requirements for a major in Geography are:

Geog 105 World Regional Geography OR
Geog 106 Human Geography AND
Geog 107 Introduction to the Physical Environment

Three of the following four 200-level core courses:

Geol 202 History of Earth
Geol 203 Surface Processes
Geog 204 (Envst 204) Human Dimensions of Environmental Change
Geog 205 Mapping and Spatial Analysis
Envst 200 Environmental Science

One of the following thematic courses:

Geog 202

Cities of the 21st Century
Geog 206 Political Geography
Geog 209 Women and the Environment
Geog 224 Atmosphere and Weather

Any one of the following regional courses:

Geog 214 Geography of South Asia
