massachusetts AWARDS


(established in 1995)

DESCRIPTION: Awarded annually at the MaFLA Fall Conference Saturday Luncheon to a current or former German instructor who has made significant contributions to the German language teaching profession in Massachusetts.

ELIGIBILITY: Current AATG member (affiliated with the Massachusetts Chapter) and MaFLA member in good standing.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Professional achievement and activities, dedication to the German language profession.

AWARD: Certificate of recognition and gift.

NOMINATION DEADLINE: May 1st of each year. Nominations should be emailed to Inge Buerger (ingemb@aol.com).

(established in 1990)

DESCRIPTION: Awarded annually at the AATG Awards Ceremony in May to recognize outstanding contributions to the teaching of German on the K-12 level in Massachusetts.

ELIGIBILITY: Current teacher of German in Massachusetts whose students participate in the AATG National Testing Program.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Evidence of advocacy and promotion of German study on the K-12 level through participation in the AATG National Testing Program and other activities (such as a GAPP Exchange, German Club, etc.)

AWARD: Duden Certificate and gift.

NOMINATION DEADLINE: April 1st of each year. Nominations should be emailed to Joan Murray (joan.murray@regis.edu), Testing Chair of the Massachusetts Chapter..

DESCRIPTION: The AATG Outstanding German Educator Award is the most prestigious national award and is presented annually to an AATG member who exemplifies excellence at his/her level (K-8; 9-12; college/university. Selection criteria include: five or more years of involvement in German education; active participation in professional organizations; active member in good standing of the local AATG chapter; leadership in other local, state, or national organizations; demonstrated creative leadership in German language education; evidence of continued growth as a German educator; the candidate is expected to have community and/or national impact.

NOMINATION: Any member in good standing of the Massachusetts Chapter of the AATG is eligible and may be nominated by anyone in the profession who is an AATG member in good standing.

AWARD: Certificate of recognition and trip to Berlin.

DESCRIPTION: The Certificate of Merit Award is a special joint award of the American Association of Teachers of German and the Goethe Institute recognizing those individuals who have made significant contributions to the teaching of German in the United States of America.

NOMINATION: Any member in good standing of the Massachusetts Chapter of the AATG is eligible and must be nominated by someone else in the chapter.

AWARD: Certificate of recognition and "Gutschein" for the AATG store.

DESCRIPTION: The AATG Friend of German Award recognizes outstanding support for and promotion of German and the study of German at the local, regional, or national level.
