Academic Leave

Academic leave includes study abroad, all exchange programs, and full-time or part-time study at other US colleges and universities. The Center for Global Initiatives coordinates all applications for academic leave of absence, including those for study in the U.S. Make sure to read all the important information under “Academic Leaves” before looking at specific programs, or you may miss an important step.

Basic Requirements
To qualify for an academic leave of absence, a student must meet the following requirements:

Be in good academic standing.
You must have a minimum grade point average of 2.7 and not be significantly behind in credits.

Declare a major
Declare a major if you are applying to study away for all or part of your junior or senior year. Students applying to study away as sophomores are not required to declare a major in advance.

Present a plan of study
Presente a plan of study at an accredited institution in the U.S. or an approved program or university abroad that will enhance your academic program at Mount Holyoke and be suitable to Mount Holyoke's curriculum.

Obtain the approval
Obtain approval of your plan from your major advisor and, if applicable, the appropriate language department.
