Other US Institutions
Some students find that rather than studying abroad, they are interested in spending time at a college or university in the US that is not part of a special Mount Holyoke program. Students may find this desirable for a number of reasons, including a need to be closer to home for a semester, an opportunity to take specialized courses offered only at a particular institution, or an interest in exploring another part of the country while in school.
Students may apply for academic leave to study at any accredited college or university in the U.S. If you might be interested in studying at another US institution, you should consult with your MHC academic advisor about your plans and contact the institutions you are interested in directly for information about applying as a visiting or guest (“non-degree seeking”) student. While some institutions may have a formal visitor program, others will allow visitors to enroll in classes but will expect you to find your own housing. The admission office at the host institution should be able to provide more information or direct you to the appropriate office.
Deadlines For study at other accredited institutions in the US that are not affiliated with Mount Holyoke, apply to Mount Holyoke for your academic leave by March 1 (for fall or full year) or November 1 (for spring semester). Use the Application for Academic Leave of Absence form (PDF)
