How to Apply

Students seeking a non-academic leave should discuss their plans with one of the academic deans or with the assistant to the dean of the College and complete the Application for a Non-Academic Leave of Absence form, available in the offices of the dean of the College, the academic deans, and the registrar.

Completed forms must have the signature of the student's academic advisor and one of the academic deans before being submitted to the assistant to the dean of the College for approval. If a student is off campus, she may send a written request for a non-academic leave directly to the assistant to the dean of the College. Email requests are also acceptable and should be sent to Nancy Larson.

Every student granted a non-academic leave of absence will receive a letter from the assistant to the dean of the College stating the terms and conditions of the leave. This letter and any other documents given to the student (as well as the Mount Holyoke Catalogue current to the student’s incoming year) should be read carefully and kept for future reference.

International students should be aware that their immigration status may be affected by taking a non-academic leave, and thus they should consult with the Center for Global Initiatives before finalizing their plans.
