From MHC to Graduate School in Engineering

Mount Holyoke offers outstanding preparation for graduate school engineering programs. In recent years, all Mount Holyoke alumnae who have gone on to graduate school in engineering have majored in physics and/or mathematics. Strong preparation in physics and mathematics is essential. How students choose their MHC major can also depend on what area of engineering they want to pursue. A major in chemistry could lead to graduate work in chemical engineering. A background in chemistry and biology could also prepare students for environmental engineering. A computer science major could lead to graduate work in computer engineering. Many MHC alumnae also go on to earn doctorates in computer science; for more information visit the Department of Computer Science. Any student who wants to pursue graduate work in engineering should take at least one or two engineering courses at UMass via the Five College exchange.
