ADVISING MATERIAL FOR

MATHEMATICS/ECONOMICS SPECIAL MAJORS

The special major in mathematics and economics requires at least ten courses above the 100-level and must include at least five 300-level courses divided between the two departments. The Mathematics/Statistics and Economics departments have agreed that approval is automatic for special majors including the courses below. Variations may be discussed with faculty advisers from each department.
 

 

Economics

Two Required courses:

  • 211 Micro Theory
  • 212 Macro Theory

 

Advanced Courses:

At least two 300-level courses, including at least one of these two:

  • 308 Macroeconomics
  • 320 Econometrics

 

 Mathematics

Three Required Courses

  • 203 Multivariable Calculus
  • 211 Linear Algebra
  • 251 Laboratory in Mathematical Experimentation

Advanced Courses:

At least two courses chosen from:
  • 301 Real Analysis
  • 333 Differential Equations
  • 339 Mathematical Finance
  • 341 Linear Statistical Models
  • 342 Probability
  • 343 Mathematical Statistics

 The special major must consist of at least five (5) 300-level courses within the two departments
