Barbara Garbin

Specialization 20th century Italian literature, women writers, fantastic literature
Barbara Garbin’s research interest focuses on Italian women writers in the 20th century, with special attention to the fantastic genre, and the definition of a tradition of modern fantastic in contemporary Italian literature.
Her previous research concentrated on the relationship between Italy and the United States in the literary work of the Venetian writer and UCLA professor Pier Maria Pasinetti.
At Mount Holyoke, Garbin teaches Elementary Italian 101 and 102, and, in the spring, Intensive Elementary Italian 103. She also created and teaches the new Intermediate Italian 201, “Intermedia: Intermediate Italian through Film.”
Garbin organizes and teaches the summer Italian language course in Italy, Italian 200. The program includes three weeks of intensive Italian language classes and field trips in the Veneto region.
Barbara is co-founder and co-director of the Italian language school Centro di Lingua e Cultura Italiana IL FARO, located in Caorle, Italy.
