James Harold

Assistant Professor of Philosophy

Specialization: Philosophy of art, especially literature; ethics and metaethics; medical ethics; political philosophy

James HaroldJames Harold specializes in aesthetics and ethics. Harold's work in aesthetics focuses on imaginative engagement with narrative artworks. He is currently writing a book on the moral evaluation of narrative art. He is also interested in philosophical issues relating to psychopathology.

Harold's essays have been published in The Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, Journal of Social Philosophy, Philosophical Explorations, and the British Journal of Aesthetics, among other scholarly publications. He has also published several opinion pieces in papers such as the San Francisco Chronicle and the Chicago Tribune. In summer 2002, he was a participant in the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute on Art, Mind, and Cognitive Science.

Before coming to Mount Holyoke, Harold taught at Washington University in St. Louis and St. Olaf College.
