Jillian McLeod
Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Specialization: Topological algebra
Jillian McLeod’s dissertation research was in the field of topological algebra. In her thesis she used the algebra of the Stone Cech compactification, ßS, of a discrete semigroup S, to extend notions of largeness, such as central, to partial semigroups. There are many combinatorial applications (Ramsey theoretic) of the algebra of ßS. The central sets theorem is such an application and can be extended to adequate partial semigroups. McLeod continues to work in this area while also exploring other interests such as combinatorics.
Before joining Mount Holyoke, McLeod taught at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. She is a native of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
