"I hear many people describe mathematics as cut, dried, and lifeless. I try to counter such a perception by instilling in my students the idea that there is an unending list of fascinating mathematical questions 'out there,' never thought of before, and waiting to be asked—and, if they have a sense of curiosity and a spirit of adventure, they can create those questions."
