Catharine Melhorn

Catharine MelhornCatharine Melhorn has been the choral director at Mount Holyoke College since 1971. During 35 years of Melhorn's leadership, the College's choirs have won critical acclaim throughout the U.S. and abroad (in South America, Russia, Sweden, Spain, central and eastern Europe, England, Wales, and Costa Rica).

In the classroom Melhorn has taught the first-year seminar From Words to Music, as well as conducting, music appreciation, elementary music theory, and twentieth-century music history.

Melhorn has spent parts of two sabbaticals in Ghana, West Africa, where she conducted and taught at the University of Ghana, Legon as a Fulbright Fellow.

In addition to her role as choral director and professor, Melhorn is the creator and coordinator of the College's Second*Saturday program, a one-day introduction to the community service and recreational resources of the Pioneer Valley for entering Mount Holyoke students.
