"My job is to provide health care to the intercollegiate athletes, specifically the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries. I strive to make compassion and competent care the hallmarks of the training room. I believe injuries provide an opportunity, a teachable moment, to teach athletes about their bodies and how best to train, condition, and optimize performance."

Ellen Perrella

Senior Lecturer in Physical Education and Athletics

Specialization: Fitness; functional strength training; sports medicine; body image/eating disorders

In addition to her work as a certified athletic trainer, Ellen Perrella teaches cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid—skills she considers invaluable. "I can guarantee the students that this information will come in handy," says Perrella, "whether it be for themselves, loved ones, or complete strangers. Most of the students really appreciate being better prepared to handle a medical crisis or situation that may arise in their life."

Perrella also teaches a functional strength-training class, which allows her to share her love of this state-of-the-art approach to weight training. Perrella believes passionately in the value and importance of strength training, especially for women. Says Perrella, "It's always fun to connect with the students, and help them to explore the capabilities of their own bodies."

Perrella received the Twentieth Anniversary Service Award from the Athletic Trainers of Massachusetts.
