Here is the archive of the MHC Jazz Net Bulletin Board. This was started by Rebecca Nowak, our webmistress (2006-present), who is writing this in the third person... But, back to jazz business.

Fall 2007

12/18/07: End of Semester Business

  • As coordinator of Big Band and Chamber Jazz AND as the Webmistress, I would like to congradulate EVERYONE in the jazz ensembles for a great performance during HOT JAZZ. Good luck on finals. For those of you going abroad next semester, have fun, stay safe, and come back to MHC Jazz when you return!
  • Looking towards next semester, now, Big Band is looking for instrumentalists of all kinds. Whether you play bass, guitar, saxophone, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone... email me (rrnowak) or Mark (mgionfri) and set up a painless audition or stop by his office in Pratt.
  • MHC Jazz Alumnae-- make sure to keep checking here for more updates about our upcoming reunion/anniversary concert (the "celebrating 10 years" banner also links to that page).
12/3/07: Hot Jazz on a Cold Night is this coming weekend!!

Why not take a break and come out to McCulloch Auditorium this Saturday 12/8 at 8:00pm and hear classics such as "Doxy", "Red Clay", "Winter Wonderland", and more!
  • In the mean time, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of "How the Grinch stole Christmas. Why is this relavant to MHC Jazz? Come to our concert and find out!

Spring 2007

[Note that webmistress was overseas for semester, thus making Spring 2007's board very empty]

5/15/07: See you next year!

  • Seniors will be missed; seeing old members will be nice; and fresh blood I mean, new members will be awesome.
  • We will also be celebrating our ten year aniversary. Notice the awesome banner I designed!!! Have a great summer everyone! Come visit me in Germany....

4/29/07: Update; Concert; Officers

  • I realize that this website hasn't been updated in nearly five months. Well that is what happens when you are in a foreign country for the semester. And I still have another three months here in Germany, but the semester is winding down, so in a couple weeks there won't be much MHC Jazz news anyway. But in the mean time....
  • Don't forget to go to MHC Jazz's Spring Concert this Saturday, May 5th, 7:30pm!
  • Elections were recently held, and congratulations are due to the following new officers for the coming 2007-2008 academic year:

1/1/07: Happy New Year!
  • First of all, as you may have noticed, this jazz bulletin has been cleared. Not to fear-- I have created a new page called "Jazz Bulletin Archive", which is linked on the history page.
  • Second, auditions will be coming up around the end of January as Spring 2007 begins, so keep checking back for dates! (We especially need a couple trombonists and trumpet players!)
  • A few of our jazz members are going abroad this coming semester. I, your webmistress, am going to Freiburg, Germany. Abby Stivers (big band trombone) will be going to Ecuador. Amy Wiese (vocal jazz) will be going to Denmark. Any other members going abroad? Let me know!

Fall 2006

12/11/06: End of Semester wrap-up
  • Congratulations to everyone in JEMHC for their great performance in Hot Jazz on a Cold Night! Also, congrats to Chamber Jazz and Vocal Jazz on Vespers. It was a lot of work and time, but we did it!

On a more personal level, it finally hit me during the concert that this would be my last MHC Jazz concert until October of '07, as I am going abroad next semester. Not only that, but this was my last time performing with our seniors, the class of '07.
So, seniors, good luck with your last semester! Make MHC Jazz continue to rock on 'til I get back. ;) I will miss you all so much, and I really am sad that I won't get to see you graduate and all that. I actually cried last night. Seriously. Shout out to class of '07! ...and especially to the Maggies, because we had some good times in the saxophone section! I will really miss you, and it won't be the same without.

  • This past weekend was eventful, overall. I will post some pictures in the "Recordings & Photos" page, so keep checking back. Don't worry, nothing criminalizing! Just a few innocent pictures to show what it's like behind the scenes :)
  • One more thing to the jazzers: To those of you who have sent me bios and pics but do not yet see them up here, don't worry, I do have them. I just have not yet posted them because I, like you, am also going crazy with lots of end-of-semester stuff. Worry not.

12/6/06: Check out these pictures from Vespers at MHC

  • Also, don't forget to come to HOT JAZZ ON A COLD NIGHT!

11/30/06: MHC Jazz in the news: more Vespers

  • MHC Vespers Set for December 3rd
  • Now for a personal note from the webmistress: As I will be studying abroad next semester, I will give another MHC Jazz student temporary permission to edit this website, so that information may remain accurate and you have a reliable source of information regarding your jazz needs.

11/17/06: Vespers in the news

11/13/06: MHC JAZZ NET IS ON THE AIR!!!

  • I have finally moved all the work I have been doing these past 3 months on to the designated MHC Jazz webspace, so now people don't have to go to my personal website to find this! I have finally taken down the old design and info and replaced it with what's hot and new.
  • Please note, however, that parts of this website are not complete, and like any new website, things will need to be tweaked here and there. The "Alumnae" and "History" pages especially need a lot of work. Sorry for any inconvenience! My work is far from done....
  • Note, also, that I will be studying abroad in Freiburg for the Spring 2007 semester, so either I need to get a VPN connection from LITS, another student needs to maintain the site, or this site will just be very out of date for awhile :(

11/8/06: Mark your calendar!

  • Hot Jazz on a Cold Night is coming up on Saturday, December 9th at 7:30pm in McCulloch Auditorium, Pratt Hall, Mount Holyoke College.
  • Chamber & Vocal Jazz will be making an appearence in MHC Christmas Vespers:
    • Sunday, December 3rd at 4pm and 7:30pm in Abbey Chappel, Mount Holyoke College
    • Friday, December 8th at St Bartholomew's Church, New York City

10/25/06: Progress of Jazz Website

  • Phew! I have finally created pages for all of my above, promised links, and also fixed broken links. Of course, the pages they lead to are still pretty undeveloped, but at least the links are not broken, because there is nothing more annoying than a broken link.
I should soon be ready to move this website off of my personal website and on to the designated MHC Jazz website!
  • Also, don't forget-- Hot Jazz and Vespers are coming up! Be sure to look in the Concerts & Events page for more details!
10/2/06: WFCR TO AIR "SAYS YOU" BROADCAST!
  • WFCR (88.5 FM) will air the "Says You!" recordings, which feature the MHC Big Band, on 10/7 and 10/28 at 1pm.
  • Not in the area to listen to WFCR? You can still hear the shows by streaming it from WFCR.org, as well as going to NPR's website.

9/18/06: Upcoming concerts

  • Wingin' It - Come to our Friends & Family Weekend concert, Sunday 10/22/06.
  • Hot Jazz on a Cold Night - (more info coming soon!)

9/7/06: Auditions; Big Band Live!

  • Attn 2010 & transfers: We are holding auditions Thursday the 7th and Friday the 8th. Stop by Pratt Hall to sign up!
  • Big Band Live - "MHC Big Band Jazz will be the featured musical guest group on WGBH Radio's "Says You!", a fun quiz show which is not only heard in Boston but syndicated to 107 National Public Radio stations coast-to-coast! On any given week, the show is heard by over 400,000 listeners as well as podcasted to iTunes Music Store and Audible.com! (The show will be broadcast as two episodes in October locally on WFCR/Amherst.) So you can see that this event will give MHC Jazz HUGE exposure!" (Mark)
The show will be recorded LIVE in Chapin Auditorium on Sunday (9/10) at 2:00 PM. Check it out!!
