The Jazz Ensembles of MHC consist of Big Band, Chamber Jazz, and Vocal Jazz.

Big Band

Big Band is a full-sized jazz band, with 5 saxophones (alto 1 & 2, tenor 1 & 2, and baritone), 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, and a rhythm section (drums, piano, bass, and guitar). Depending on who's around or what we're playing, we also have some parts for clarinet and for flute.

Chamber Jazz

Chamber Jazz is a smaller, more advanced version of Big Band, consisting of an alto saxophone, a tenor saxophone, a trombone, a trumpet, drums, bass, guitar, and piano. Also we sometimes have baritone saxophone and clarinet.
Overall, Chamber Jazz provides additional solo opportunities and practice.

Vocal Jazz

Vocal Jazz is a group of about 20 talented singers (in parts of alto 2, alto 1, soprano 1, soprano 2) who sing a number of jazz choral arrangements. They also get a number of opportunities to solo while accompanied by the rest of the choir, chamber jazz, or big band!
