Ensembles
Pratt is alive with music during the school year. Ensembles are open to everyone (not only majors and minors). There is a variety of large and small ensembles in which you can participate:
Choral Ensembles
Choral performances and tours are among the true highlights of a college career, and friendships forged in MHC choral ensembles last a lifetime.
Five College Early Music Ensembles
The Five College Early Music Program has many ensemble possibilities for students who would like to perform music with attention to historical performance practice. Collegium performs music with vocal and instrumental components. Euridice ensembles may include baroque trios, classical quartets, cantata groupings, etc. Ensembles are formed according to the needs and interests of students participating each semester.
Jazz Ensembles
Jazz ensemble participants appear in a number of concerts and events on campus which have fast become traditions, including the Family & Friends Weekend Concert in October; “Hot Jazz On A Cold Night!” in December; and March’s unique performance project, “The Big Broadcast!”, an authentic 1940’s radio show.
Mixed Chamber Ensembles and Flute Choir
Study and perform chamber works for varying combinations of instruments. Wind, string, piano, mixed, and brass ensembles are all possible depending on the interest of students during a particular semester. Participation is by audition.
Symphony Orchestra
The orchestra performs five to six concerts each academic year, including a Chronological Concert and a special concert on Family and Friends Weekend. Programs feature a wide variety of styles and genres drawn from three centuries of orchestral repertoire. Student soloists are a frequent feature on MHC Orchestra concerts.
