Keyboard Proficiency Exam
Music majors are required to demonstrate a level of keyboard proficiency that permits the reading of elementary keyboard repertory with some facility.
The Keyboard Proficiency Exam includes:
- Sight-reading of melodic lines.
Read, in correct rhythm, individual parts of a string quartet or a four-part choral work. Student may choose to be tested on either an instrumental or a vocal example.
Read, in correct rhythm, single atonal melodic lines notated in treble and bass clefs.
- Performance of a prepared piece of upper elementary difficulty, at minimum.
Students should direct any questions regarding the keyboard proficiency exam to members of the keyboard faculty.
