Kivie Cahn-Lipman
Lecturer in Music
Specialization: cello

Kivie Cahn-Lipman holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and Juilliard School, and is a Doctoral candidate at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He has performed recent solo or chamber recitals in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Lincoln Center's Alice Tully and Merkin Halls, Symphony Space, Columbia University's Miller Theater, and on 96.3 WQXR's "Young Artist's Showcase" in New York and 98.7 WFMT's "Live from Studio One" in Chicago. With the Elan Trio, he won top prize at several national chamber music competitions, and recently recorded George Crumb's" Voice of the Whale" for Bridge Records' "Complete Crumb Edition" at the composer's request. Other upcoming chamber recordings include a chamber concerto cycle by Huang Ruo on NAXOS. He is a founding member of ICE, a contemporary music ensemble that has been touring internationally to critical acclaim, and he has performed over 300 world premieres, working with such composers as Bright Sheng, Mario Davidovsky, Donald Martino, John Luther Adams, and Pierre Boulez. Recent concerts include Kaija Saariaho's cello concerto "Amers," with the composer performing live electronics, and Vincent Calianno's electric cello concerto "Fuel." He additionally performs on baroque cello, piccolo cello, and viola da gamba.
