WelcomeWelcome to the Music Department website and welcome Class of 2011! Love to perform? Hate to perform but want to learn to love it? Want to learn more about the historical or social context of music from a particular period or how it is constructed, or how you can compose music? Want to learn more about world music? Do you think learning about music will “ruin” it for you? Do you want to sing in a chorus or in vocal jazz? Play in an orchestra, a jazz band, Klezmer band, flute choir? Is chamber music your passion? Mount Holyoke music majors are accepted in graduate programs of their choice across the country. Mount Holyoke musicians are welcome in performing groups around the world. Faculty Projects reflect the broad interests of the faculty in research, composition, and performance, development of new methods of teaching, reaching toward all musics, and exploration of new methods of research. Performers on our faculty give concerts here on campus, around the country, and around the world. In both the classroom and the studio, students learn that hard work and play are not mutually exclusive but rather an important integration in the arts.
