The Major

Neuroscience and Behavior at Mount Holyoke is an interdisciplinary major for students with integrative interests in the biological sciences and psychology.

The requirements for the major are:

  • Biological Sciences 145 or 150 or 160
  • A 100 level course in Psychology
  • Chemistry 101
  • Mathematics 101 or 103, or 151-200
  • Psychology 200
  • Psychology 250
  • A course in quantitative inference
    (Psychology 201 or Mathematics 240)
  • Biological Sciences 200, 220, 333
  • Chemistry 201, 202

In addition, three courses at the 300 level selected from the following:

  • Biological Sciences 311, 315, 328
  • Psychology 350, 351, 352
  • Computer Science 334, 335
  • Neuroscience 395 (4 credits, may not be repeated)

One course may be a relevant seminar, e.g. Psychology 359.

Students planning postgraduate study in a related discipline or in medicine are urged to participate in independent laboratory research.
