Fiona Somers
Fiona Somers, who graduated from Smith College with a major in East Asian studies, is now a student at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Fiona entered the postbaccalaureate program with some of her prerequisite science courses already completed, and was able to finish those courses in one year. During the year that she was applying to medical school, Fiona worked for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Primary Care Information Project, which makes electronic health record systems affordable for doctors who work with medically disadvantaged patients. Students who want to prepare for a medical career would be hard-pressed, she says, “to find a more supportive environment in which to take on a new challenge.”
