The Psychology Major
To complete the major, students must take 32 credits starting with
a 100 level Psychology course, 201 (Statistics), 200 (Research
Methods in Psychology), and continuing with 12 credits at the 300 level,
which include two 300-level laboratory courses. The last requirement
may be satisfied in either of two ways: (1) by electing two courses
among, 310, 323, 324, 325, 330, 331, 340, 350, 351, 352, or (2) by
electing one course from that list plus either 395 of 4 credits with
an oral presentation and paper at the end of the semester (see College
Catalog for details) or 8 credits of 395. All majors must take courses
in at least four of the five areas of the psychology curriculum: social
psychology; personality and abnormal psychology; developmental and
educational psychology; perception, cognition and language, and biological
bases of behavior. The courses may be either at the 200 or 300 level.
Psych 295 and 395 independent studies will
not be counted as one of the five areas of psychology. Students
who expect to do graduate work in psychology should consult with their
advisor or with other members of the department regarding their psychology
program as well as election of related courses from other departments.
