Jane Crosthwaite
Chair, Department of Religion
Jane Crosthwaite received her Bachelor's degree from
Wake Forest University and her Ph.D. from Duke. She is
one of the founding members of the Women's Studies Program,
and teaches courses in women in American religious history.
Professor Crosthwaite also teaches courses in ethics.
Her research is primarily directed toward a study of
the drawings produced by the Shaker sisters during the
mid-nineteenth century period known as the Era of Manifestations. She and her co-editor, Christian Goodwillie, have a book on the first Shaker hymnal (1812-1813) due out in early 2008. The book, Millennial Praises, will feature Goodwillie's work on early Shaker music and Professor Crosthwaite's analysis of Shaker theology.
