Anna Mester, '09
French Major
A native of Hungary, I am an interesting mix of Hungarian, Dutch, and American, as I spent significant time in all those countries. Mount Holyoke’s appeal in my choice of colleges was specifically for their Romance Language and Literatures Program. I appreciate languages and their accompanying literatures for their power to shape realities, cultures, and ways of thought.
At Mount Holyoke, I have studied Spanish and French; and at UMass I studied Portuguese. For my Romance Language project I am writing an honors thesis entitled “Repensar Ekomo de María Nsué Angüe: un desafío ecuatoguineano a la Hispanidad” that explores Afro-identities in Spain. In the fall of 2009 I will be attending a PhD program in Romance Languages studying Africanity in Southern Europe.
