Courses
The Spanish department offers courses at elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels; most are conducted in Spanish. Elementary courses focus on understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. Intermediate courses (200 level) review grammar while introducing students to Spanish and Hispanophone literatures and cultures. Advanced courses focus on periods of Spanish and Latin American history, literature, arts, and social and political issues.
Students who have never studied Spanish before should enroll in 101 or 103 (intensive). Others should take the Spanish placement exam and complete a language questionnaire before registering for classes.
