One of Mexico’s classical melodramas, this film is based on the famous novel by the Venezuelan author Rómulo Gallegos. The male protagonist, Santos Luzardo, a lawyer, returns to his father's land in the plains to sell the land but changes his mind when he discovers that it is controlled by a despotic woman, Doña Bárbara, also known as the “devourer of men”; it is said that she uses seduction and pacts with demonic spirits to satisfy her whims and achieve power. Doña Bárbara falls in love with Santos but he is charmed by Marisela, her illegitimate daughter…

This film looks at the crises that follows the failed suicide attempt of Mauricio, an elderly Jewish man who feels lost after the death of his wife. When his extended family determines that he cannot live by himself, they come together to decide what to do. The decision is put aside as members of the young generation decide to celebrate a traditional Seder. As the family struggles over what to do with Mauricio, his children have to face issues that go back many years…

For Halloween, we are showing one of the best thrillers from Spain. The plot involves a young film student Angela (Ana Terrant) who is doing a thesis on cinematic violence. Doing research for her thesis, she seeks out the most extremely violent movies she can find and accidentally stumbles upon a snuff film depicting the torture and murder of a fellow student from her university. She soon starts investigating the facts behind the film… Despite the topic, this is a thriller, not a violent movie!

A trip to mental institution hell. This odyssey is lived by Neto, a middle class teenager, who lives a normal life until his father sends him to a mental institution after finding drugs in his pocket. The marijuana joint is just the final drop that exposes the family tragedy. Sent to a mental institution, Neto gets to know a completely absurd, inhumane reality in which people are devoured by a corrupt and cruel system. The documentary type language used by the director give this movie a sensation of reality that intensifies the impact of the emotions Neto goes through. In the mental institution, Neto is forced to mature. The transformations that he goes through change his relation with his father.

A dysfunctional family in Madrid: Gloria is a cleaning lady, hooked on No-Doze, living in a crowded apartment with Antonio, a cab driver who adores an aging German singer he used to chauffeur; he's also a forger. One teen son sells heroin, the other sleeps with men. Her mother-in-law keeps bottled water and cupcakes under lock and key, selling them to the family. Two alcoholic writers cook up a plot to sell a manuscript as Hitler's memoirs, if Antonio will transcribe it in Hitler's hand. He agrees, so they ask the German singer to play the role of the original owner since her past affinity for Nazi memorabilia makes her a likely candidate. Meanwhile, Gloria has given away one son to a sex-crazed dentist, and grandma picks up a pet lizard. Can this chaos be tamed?
