What are the facilities like?
The Rooke Theatre seats 192 in an intimate wood paneled theatre.
The stage is 25 feet wide, with 22 line sets in the fly loft and
a fully equipped shop directly upstage. There is also a black
box theatre for classes and student produced work.
Do students direct on the main stage?
Yes, students frequently direct on our mainstage. Students also
design main stage productions.
Do you do musicals?
Yes.
How many productions are there?
There are usually four main stage productions each year and as
many black box productions as time allows. View past
events.
What is free theatre?
Free theatre is a student run program to assist students who want
to produce a theatrical work. The pieces have been presented in
the black box on the main stage and in other spaces around campus.
Faculty support and small amounts of financial assistance are
available for the works.

Can I audition or work backstage if I'm
not a major or in a class?
Yes, many do and all are welcome.
What are auditions like? Do I need to have
a piece memorized?
The format varies with directors. The audition notice will have
details. Often they are open so you can watch. If a memorized
piece is required, it will be noted on the audition poster.
What is a typical production period for
a play?
We usually have four to five weeks of rehearsals before tech.
The rehearsals are five nights a week for about three hours with
some weekend rehearsals. Technical rehearsals start on a Friday
evening and continue on Saturday. Dress rehearsals start on Sunday
with a preview with an audience on Wednesday. The play runs from
Thursday through Sunday, with two matinees and strike following
the last performance.
