Theatre Arts
Studying theatre arts at Mount Holyoke means performing and producing, designing and directing, lighting and writing. Whether pursuing the major or the minor—or just trying out a theatre course—students experience a curriculum that is interdisciplinary, international, multicultural, and that embodies the liberal arts tradition. The department’s objectives include combining the theory and practice of theatre arts with the understanding that one informs the other.
Mount Holyoke offers a supportive and challenging artistic environment that prepares students for a range of careers, both in the theatre and in other fields. Faculty members are professional artists with whom students develop close and collaborative relationships. Each year, the theatre arts department oversees approximately four main stage productions, as well as numerous black box productions. Students also have access to workshops and other activities that cultivate creativity and develop professional skills.
Auditions for Mount Holyoke College's theatre productions are open to students enrolled in any courses in the Five Colleges. Likewise, Mount Holyoke students are encouraged to attend auditions and get involved with productions on the other four campuses.
