Within the Circle As a seminar group of seven women, we are concerned about our environment and how our actions, choices and lives are interconnected and consequently have a global impact. We have been exploring our immediate landscapes here in the Pioneer Valley region of Massachusetts, looking through individual lenses, and endeavoring to show how local issues are essentially global issues. We have chosen organizations and people whose work, which is done predominantly by women, is relatively unseen, unheard, and unknown to many in this region. Our main purpose is to educate our readers about re-imagining the environment, and to inspire them to do proactive work on behalf of a safer and healthier future for our children and our communities. Within The Circle is an expression of our view that we are a part of the environment, that it is not something distant or inaccessible. Like the ecological interconnectedness of the earth and its life support systems, Environmental Justice issues encompass every facet of our lives. The six projects on this website are examples of different ways of looking at the environment and inspiring appreciation of the diversity of environmental justice. |
