Admission Tour Guide

Why MHC: "I picked Mount Holyoke for the strong sense of self the college has and the women who attend it also have. Its students exude a self-confidence I hope to achieve and its professors are dedicated to nurture this. I was attracted by the institution's academic rigor and yet supportive community sense. It's a place with so many opportunities, which one can make accessible and attainable. There are a variety of ways in which one can define personal success here. I like the school's sense of tradition as well as its progressive commitment, its diversity and yet its unity. Mount Holyoke is a balanced place in which to grow" |

| Postgraduate Plans: |
I hope to find a career that challenges and fulfills me, one that allows me to travel and continue learning, while also assist others. I am passionate about my concentration in languages and literature. Whether these interests feed into a career as an interpreter, translator, ESL instructor, teacher/professor, into immigration law and advocacy, journalism or editing I would feel my goals were realized. It is also my goal to complete at least a master's education in Spanish, literature, and/or linguistics at some point in the future. |
| Study Abroad/Internships: |
I plan on studying abroad in Spain for my Junior year. |
| Favorite Professors: |
Dr. Pamela Matheson (Statistics), Christian Gundermann (Spanish/Film/Gender Studies) |
| Favorite Class: |
Gender Studies: Political Sexualities in the Muslim Context |
| Favorite Extracurricular Activity: |
I'm enjoying my new commitment to the Speaking, Arguing and Writing (SAW) center |
| Favorite Place on Campus: |
This would have to be either sharing an iced tea with my friends as we sit outside and overlook lower-lake in the early fall or the rotund room at the top of Kendade where we studied gothic literature on a rainy day, surrounded by the beautifully-fitting architecture seen out of the windows. |
| Favorite Tradition: |
There are far too many to pick an absolute favorite, but I have to say that being welcomed into the Mount Holyoke Community by the Glee Club as they sang a traditional lullaby after the honor code ceremony was a beautifully chilling moment. How can you also not enjoy the shuffling slippers at M and C's as we share in the stress of late night study, the class year pride shown in the colors of convocation in the amphitheater, the aura of candles and voices at Vespers, and the mystery of elves as they visit the first-year students. |
| Favorite Dining Hall Food: |
Macaroni and cheese, Vietnamese beef wraps, and the seasoned pita bread. |
| Favorite Local Restaurant: |
Thai Garden in Northampton |
| What did you do last weekend? |
Last weekend I spent quality time hanging around with friends, attended the Festival of Diversity (F.O.D.) as well as its after-party in Blanchard, and ended the weekend with the C.A.U.S.E. Rock for Darfur concert and lots of homework. |
