How We Read Applications

At Mount Holyoke, we make every effort to get to know you as an applicant.

The Office of Admission begins with your transcript, as this reveals your performance over time in a variety of subjects. Next, your essay is examined along with the short answers. Students will write extensively at Mount Holyoke, so the caliber of writing is important. Through a student's writing, the admission office hopes to understand her more fully.

Then, activities and involvement and letters of recommendation are reviewed. The interview report adds another dimension to the application and can be especially useful in evaluating a borderline candidate. There are many factors taken into account when deciding whether or not an applicant is admissible and each of them is examined carefully.
