Why MHC: "I chose Mount Holyoke because of the classroom visit I had when I visited as a prospective student. The class I sat in on was fabulous -- engaging, challenging, and welcoming. Now that I'm a student here, I'm happy to say that my classes have been just as impressive. I have close relationships with my professors, who are here first and foremost to teach. It's clear every day that they are just as eager to learn from us as we are from them."
Class year: 2012
Major: History
Minor: English
Hometown: Philly
Current Residence Hall: Dickinson
Postgraduate Plans: My end goal is to work as a college counselor in a high school. At the same time, I love history - and recently economic history, in particular - and am considering looking into careers that would involve historical research for policy makers - a way of making my passion 'matter', as it were.
Study Abroad/Internships: None during my time at MHC, but I did defer admission for a year, and spent that time abroad in Germany, teaching at a small Montessori school.
Favorite Professors: Lynda Morgan (History), Fred Moseley (Economics), and Gayle Pemberton (English)
Favorite Class: U.S. Economic History w/ Moseley, or The Poetry and Prose of Langston Hughes w/ Pemberton
Favorite Extracurricular Activity: Rowing really, really fast on the CT River with the fabulous MHC Crew team!
Favorite Place on Campus: The green outside Abbey/Chapin
Favorite Tradition: Elfing
Favorite Dining Hall Food: Pasta with grilled chicken, artichoke, and lemon
Favorite Local Restaurant: Amanouz Cafe - Moroccan and Mediterranean restaurant in Northampton - try the turnip greens on couscous.
What did you do last weekend? The Crew team had a regatta on Saturday in Worcester, MA, so I spent the day racing and cheering on the other boats. We got back around 4pm, and since the weather was beautiful, I went with some teammates to Northampton to treat ourselves to some delicious FroYo. I slept late on Sunday, went to brunch, and then spent the day working on a paper for my Slavery in theAmericas class.
