Pioneering radio and television journalist Edward R. Murrow was born on April 25, 1908--just two years after the first successful audio broadcast of a music and entertainment program by Canadian inventor Reginald Fessenden. By the time of his death on April 27, 1965, he had established a lasting reputation as a journalist of outstanding courage, honesty and integrity. Archives & Special Collections celebrates the centenary of Murrow's birth with an exhibit of documents and photographs from the Edward R. and Janet Brewster Murrow Papers. The exhibit focuses on his World War II reporting from embattled Great Britain, his achievements as one of the first television news anchors, and his final work as Director of the United States Information Agency. This display also highlights the accomplishments of Janet Murrow, a 1933 graduate of Mount Holyoke who was a journalist during World War II as well as Executive Director of the Bundles for Britain civilian relief agency.
