Collection
More than 15,000 works of art from antiquity to the present comprise the permanent collection of the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum. Additional acquisitions are made each year through both gift and purchase. An illustrated database shared with the Five College Museums and Historic Deerfield is available online. This culturally and chronologically diverse collection—and that of the Joseph Allen Skinner Museum—are important teaching and learning resources for faculty and students in all disciplines, and serve as major cultural resources for area schools and the general public. Selected works of art are installed in the art museum’s ten galleries and reception hall on a rotating basis. Those in storage can be made available for classes as well as for individual study by students, faculty, scholars, and community members.
