Touring Exhibitions

The Mount Holyoke College Art Museum has earned a reputation for developing special exhibitions of the highest caliber, some of which travel nationally. These have included Diane Arbus: Family Albums (2004-2006) and Jane Hammond: Paper Work (2007-2009). Please note that opening and closing dates of the following exhibitions are subject to change and must be confirmed with the participating museums.

The Museum is pleased to announce its next traveling exhibition for the fall of 2010:

Wine and Spirit: Ritual, Remedies, and Revelry
2 September-14 December 2010

The first exhibition in the United States to treat the subject of wine and art in a historically comprehensive fashion, Wine and Spirit: Ritual, Remedies, and Revelry is a visual examination of the transformative powers of wine. On view at the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum until 14 December 2010, Wine and Spirit will travel to the Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Rochester where it will be on display from 29 January-10 April 2011. The exhibition, in marking wine's course through Western history, draws primarily on art historical material, but textual sources—both literary and scientific—also play an important role. The story is timeless, beginning in the Neolithic period and continuing until the present day, and is told through a variety of works of art including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, and graphic works.
