MHC Golf Academy at the Orchards

Would you like to learn to play golf or improve your golf game? Mount Holyoke College, in partnership with the Orchards Golf Club, is offering a golf academy for alumnae, their guests, and friends of the College. The four-day academy begins Sunday afternoon, June 1, after Reunion II.

The program will include lessons with Bob Bontempo, founding coach of the MHC varsity golf team, who will be assisted by other PGA and LPGA professionals. All facets of the game will be presented from the lengthy tee shot to the refinements of chipping, putting, and bunker play. The academy will appeal to the novice golfer as well as seasoned players. Bob looks forward to greeting all MHC golfers—from his varsity team members to the hundreds of alumnae who have taken his classes.

Designed by legendary golf course architect Donald Ross, The Orchards course was built in 1922 by Joseph A. Skinner for his daughter Elisabeth, an avid and talented golfer. The 6,424-yard, par-71course, one of the most beautiful and respected in the Northeast, was the host site for the 2004 U.S. Women's Open, as well as the 2002 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships and the 2001 Massachusetts Men's State Amateur Championship.

In honor of Elisabeth's pioneering spirit, love of golf, and significance as an inspiration to MHC student-athletes over the years, we are dedicating this academy to her heritage.

To provide variety and to experience more of the exquisite Pioneer Valley, we will play one day at The Amherst Golf Club. This course, built in 1900, is located on the Amherst College campus.

The golf academy fee is $595 and includes lessons, green fees, carts, practice balls, souvenir gifts, and most meals. Guest speakers and a clinic on course rules and etiquette also are included. Numerous lodging options are available in the area.

Any proceeds will benefit the Mount Holyoke College endowment fund.
