About the Symposium
As a prelude to the 2004 U.S. Women's Open being held at the Orchards Golf Club at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, Mount Holyoke and the Exercise Science Department at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst are pleased to announce an educational symposium featuring topics in exercise, diet, golf, and health. This conference will be held on the campus of Mount Holyoke on June 27th, 2004. Also, as a warm-up for viewing the best of women's golf that week, Hickory Ridge Country Club in Amherst will host a golf outing on Monday morning, June 28th.

The symposium will feature internationally recognized speakers who will discuss the latest health findings about the role of exercise and diet for promoting and maintaining lifetime health. The conference will also include sessions on flexibility and strength exercises for golf, advice on how to find the right golf shoe, golf technology, and several health screening procedures.

Focusing on the particular benefits for women, the purpose of this symposium is to demonstrate how golf, as well as other forms of exercise, can help decrease risk factors associated with common health concerns, and how the sport provides a unique opportunity for lifetime fitness and recreation.
