Serving as team captain for the 2008-09 season.
Scecina on Austen: "Katie is a player who has improved greatly over her first three seasons. She was our playmaker, our leader and our best defender last season. We will look to her this year for all of that and to step us as a scorer too. She’s probably the most unselfish player I’ve ever coached, but she has great offensive moves and a nice shot, so she will be looked upon to score more this year. Katie leads vocally and by example and will lead this young team on and off the court this season. Katie has been a huge part of the success of this program, playing significant minutes in her first three seasons. She contributed to an ECAC Championship and the 2006-07 NEWMAC Tournament Championship. Katie has the skills and potential to bring us back to being one of the best teams in the Conference." 2008-09 Game-by-Game Statistics
